Fingal County Council
Accessible, bilingual wayfinding and signage
Fingal County Council required a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system for its main civic offices. The project aimed to create a welcoming, functional, and accessible environment that reflects the council’s identity while guiding visitors clearly and intuitively through the space.
Our Approach
We began with a full site survey and stakeholder consultation to understand circulation routes, decision points and visitor journeys. This informed a strategic wayfinding plan that placed clarity and inclusivity at its core. The system was designed to integrate Irish and English seamlessly. Accessibility was addressed through the use of tactile lettering, braille and high-contrast legible typography, ensuring usability for all visitors.

The Design Solution
At the entrance, a striking welcome wall introduces the council’s identity in both Irish and English, paired with the Fingal Raven emblem to create an immediate sense of place. Directional signage was designed as slim, edge-lit panels that guide visitors clearly to council chambers, consultation areas, enterprise offices, and amenities. Room identification signs combine raised text with braille, supporting accessibility while maintaining visual consistency.
Impact
The completed signage programme has transformed the way visitors engage with the building. Navigation is now intuitive, with signage positioned at key decision points to reduce uncertainty and stress. The system is inclusive, ensuring that all members of the community can engage with the space equally.
