Heritage Ireland

Designing a digital experience that reflects the magic of Ireland’s heritage sites.

Heritage Ireland manages Ireland’s most important historic places, from world-famous prehistoric sites like Newgrange, to remarkable medieval ecclesiastical sites like Skellig Michael, to beautiful locations like Garinish Island, and Ireland’s largest park, Phoenix Park.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) that runs Heritage Ireland challenged us to create an online experience that would showcase the breadth of these wonderful places in a super accessible, highly intuitive manner.

We worked closely with the Heritage Ireland team from day one — collaboration was a key part of the process. Workshops, stakeholder meetings, heritage site visits, competitive benchmarking and usability testing were crucial parts of the research process. The new site needed to be imagery focused to showcase the range of stunning sites in the OPW’s care. Ease of exploration is also another key feature of the new site. Users can quickly find information about various sites. Particular attention was paid to accessibility on the new site — visitors with disabilities can browse through the various locations and see if particular sites are accessible to them.
