MusicConnects
Reimagining a musical institution with roots in community and place
Galway Music Residency had been a cornerstone of classical music outreach, with a flagship ensemble, loyal audiences and deep heritage. But as its work expanded into new directions, more contemporary, more diverse, more interwoven with community life, the existing identity no longer kept pace. The name and visuals felt too narrow and failed to capture the scale of its ambition.
The Proposition
MusicConnects is built on the idea of bridges: between generations, between genres, between the heart of Galway city and its surrounding communities, between tradition and innovation. It brings music into everyday life so that it belongs not only in the concert hall but in schools, parks and public spaces where everyone can be part of it.

The Solution
The new name, MusicConnects, signals a shift from being simply a presenter to becoming a connector. It positions the organisation as deeply rooted in Galway but expansive in reach. The logo draws inspiration from the Spanish Arch and the gothic windows of St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church (the home of MusicConnects), grounding the identity in the city’s history and architecture. A bold, flowing palette and rhythmic shapes evoke movement and energy, creating a visual language that feels inclusive and alive. The system works across every touchpoint, from concert posters to school workshop flyers, while remaining flexible enough to speak to very different audiences.

The Outcome
With its refreshed identity, MusicConnects has a stronger presence across Galway and beyond. Music feels closer, more visible in everyday life, whether in classrooms, community centres or local parks. The organisation can now reach wider audiences and build new partnerships while still serving its classical roots. The new brand gives staff, artists and partners a sense of confidence and cohesion. It tells a clear story about what MusicConnects stands for: music as a shared experience, open to everyone.
